Sensei Chris began his journey in the martial arts in Riverside, RI under Sensei Thomas Sullivan.
"From the very first class I was hooked. I started out taking private lessons with my parents and brother Jeff, which is a great way to get involved. After a while they gave it up, but I loved it and took to it naturally. I earned my Black belt in 1993 when I was 14, and my 2nd Degree Black the following year. Shortly after I was crushed when my instructor retired and sold the school. Ultimately though, that led me to Shihan James Bryant of Masters Self Defense Centers. Currently he holds an 8th Degree and I have continued to study with him weekly.
"Ever since I was a kid I've known that I wanted to run my own dojo (training hall). Coastal Self Defense Center is the realization of that dream, and I couldn't be happier. As an instructor it's amazing to watch students progress so quickly, and gain so much confidence and physical agility. They really do learn about themselves and become more comfortable in their own skin."
